The “Dod pieci!” charity marathon is part of an international project called “Serious Request”, in which radio DJs in different European countries broadcast for a week from a special glass studio, putting the focus on a specific group or socially relevant topic chosen by the charity marathon. Everyone is invited to donate in exchange for hearing their favourite song on the radio.
The funds raised during the “Dod pieci!” campaign will help children and young people with neurological movement disorders, for whom regular rehabilitation is crucial in their fight for independence and a fulfilling life.
This year, “Dod pieci!” will take place from 12 December until 18 December. The glass Studio of Latvian Radio 5 will be located in Riga, Dome Square.
“Dod pieci!” charity marathon is organised by Latvian Public Service Media.
Each year, the charity marathon highlights a topic of importance to society and supports communities in great need. The marathon’s main goal is a more humane environment – every “Dod pieci!” story is about how we still need to work on ourselves as a society.
The funds raised will be transferred to the charity organization Ziedot.lv to help pay for physiotherapy, occupational therapy, therapeutic massage, hydrotherapy, and physical procedures that are not directly covered by the state or local government or for which no budget funding is available, but significantly improve the condition of children.
The project partner Ziedot.lv provides the infrastructure and administration of the donation collection in line with the project’s cause.
This year, the charity marathon "Dod pieci!" will focus public attention on movement – its importance, possibilities, and often overlooked value. The marathon will focus on children and young people with neurological movement disorders, for whom regular rehabilitation is crucial in the fight for independence and a fulfilling life. At the same time, the charity marathon will highlight the sedentary lifestyle of Latvia's population and the health problems associated with it, encouraging everyone to think about the importance of movement for human physical and emotional well-being.
#DodPieci
This year, Dod pieci! will provide support to children and young people with neurological movement disorders – those who struggle every day for the opportunity to move, be independent, and live a full life.
For many children in Latvia, this freedom is not a given. Every year, the charity organization Ziedot.lv receives requests from nearly 500 children and young people who need financial support to pay for rehabilitation. These sessions are often not fully covered by state or municipal funds, but they are crucial for improving the child's functional condition and developing their motor skills. Rehabilitation costs can range from a few hundred to several thousand euros per year, and for many families this financial burden can be too heavy.
Rehabilitation is an opportunity to learn to move independently, eat, get dressed, go to school, and be with peers. It gives hope, restores self-confidence, and helps prove that mobility impairments are not an obstacle to a full life.
That is why this year, Dod pieci! is advocating for movement in its broadest sense – for those who really want to move but cannot for various reasons, and for all of us who often forget how valuable the ability to move freely is. This year, let's help children take a step towards independence and, at the same time, strengthen society's understanding of the importance of movement for human physical and emotional well-being.
We stand up for difficult issues and try to talk about them gently. We help people. We see the heroes in them and learn from their experiences. We give not only the gift of money, but also music. We celebrate the joy of giving and receiving. We truly believe that every person has value. We believe that social change starts with us.
