“Dod pieci!” (High Five!) charity marathon

The “Dod pieci!” charity marathon is part of an international project called “Serious Request”, in which radio DJs in different European countries broadcast for a week from a special glass studio, putting the focus on a specific group or socially relevant topic chosen by the charity marathon. Everyone is invited to donate in exchange for hearing their favourite song on the radio.

The Cause of This Year’s Donations

One song on Latvian Radio 5 – Pieci.lv – for a minimum donation of 5 euros will help children from Ukraine spend another day in Latvia without sirens and explosions.

Charity Marathon Venue and Time

This year, “Dod pieci!” will take place from 16 December 8.05 am until 22 December 9.10 pm. The Glass Studio of Latvian Radio 5 – Pieci.lv will be located in Riga, Dome Square.

Project Promoters

“Dod pieci!” charity marathon is organised by Latvian Radio together with Latvian Television and news portal LSM.lv, which provides technical and informational support for the implementation of the project.

Project Cause

Each year, the charity marathon highlights a topic of importance to society and supports communities in great need. The marathon’s main goal is a more humane environment – every “Dod pieci!” story is about how we still need to work on ourselves as a society.

Where the Donations Will Go

The donations will go to the Ziedot.lv Emergency Relief Fund to provide direct assistance to fulfil the children’s basic needs – purchase of school supplies, health improvement and psychological support, shoes, clothing and other acute items.

Project Partners

The project partner Ziedot.lv provides the infrastructure and administration of the donation collection in line with the project’s cause. The partners of the charity marathon are Luminor Bank and Circle K, the communication campaign is created by the advertising agency Havas Latvia.

Dod pieci! 2022

In solidarity with the Ukrainian people forced to flee the war started by Russia, “Dod pieci!” is calling on the public to support Ukrainian children in Latvia this year.

For many Ukrainians, they have to start building life in Latvia from the ground – they must find temporary housing, temporary work, temporary school and friends. Added to this is the uncertainty of when they will be able to return to Ukraine and whether they will have a home to return to. “Dod pieci!” calls on the Latvian public to realise that, despite our many problems, we are currently privileged to live in peace, and by helping Ukrainians, we are actually helping ourselves. The donations will provide direct assistance to fulfil Ukrainian children’s basic needs in Latvia – purchase of school supplies and computers, health improvement and psychological support, winter shoes, clothing and other acute items.

Why are we specifically helping Ukrainian refugee children in Latvia this year?

According to the United Nations (UN), Europe is currently facing the biggest refugee crisis since the Second World War. There are currently more than 35,000 Ukrainian refugees in Latvia. According to estimates by the Ministry of the Interior, around 31% of all Ukrainian refugees in Latvia are children, mostly aged between 2 and 17.
